Family Day is Every Day at the Nature Centre!

Get Outside Together as a Family

Looking for a low-key event for your family? Get outside and have some fun in the river valley! Join Nature Centre staff and volunteers Monday February 17th between 11:00am and 4:00pm and take part in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities that you and your family can enjoy at your own pace. Families are also encouraged to head out into the Nature Reserve and explore a “Choose Your Own Adventure” activity along the trails at the Nature Centre. Visitors will find signs that highlight local wildlife and pose a question. How each question is answered will determine which trail they take.

“Family Day is a wonderful opportunity to get outside and enjoy time together in the river valley,” says Jessica Deacon-Rogers with the Helen Schuler Nature Centre. “For families looking for a smaller event, participating in the Outdoor Adventure Activities in the Nature Reserve is a fun way to spend time together.”

If you are looking for more things to do over Reading Week visit the Nature Centre on February 21st between 1:00pm and 3:00pm for a Nature Play Pop Up with Lethbridge Plays. Discover the magic of loose parts play and let your imagination soar as you build and create using a variety of open-ended materials. Be sure to dress for the weather. All activities are drop-in and free!

Families who want to spend some time indoors can explore the Nature Centre’s two current exhibits Water Ways and The Power of Play. Water Ways is a hands-on exhibit designed to teach visitors about our local watershed, rivers, reservoirs, and how personal consumer choices impact water locally and globally! Visitors can complete a building scavenger hunt, solve a series of riddles, or circulate through the educational displays as they learn about the importance of water and how it affects every aspect of our lives.

The Power of Play is a fun, interactive exhibit that will encourage and inspire visitors to add more play to their days. Exhibits at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre make for a great destination for families, groups, and friends, as they promote positive social and interactive opportunities.
